Ha… the truth finally comes out. Ladies and gentlemen as one article puts it “Its just one more punch in the gut for baseball fans”. Yes indeed, the collective thud you heard last weekend was Major League Baseball (MLB) officials as well as many baseball fans slamming their fists down to yet another steroid driving player. Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, the player almost universally brought up as the “golden child” to surpass Barry Bonds (who in my opinion has had some problems with steroids) as the all-time homerun leader is now being painted with the same brush as Bonds himself. Don’t sit there and think for one second that he will be the only one in the future to be busted. Do the words LIAR, CHEAT, FRAUD come to your mind when you hear about another player who needs banned substances to perform well? Well if they don’t they should. Just off the record, wouldn’t it be funny if teammate Derrick Jeter got busted for using steroids too. Then they would be known as the dynamic duo of A-ROID and DERRICK CHEATER!!!!!! Anyways, back to the topic. This is indeed not a new PR topic, but in a sense just 1 more page to add on top of the steroid novel that MLB has created in the last 10 years. When is this going to stop? I am sick and tired of hearing about players that get caught, and serve little to no repercussions because of it. So they fine them 5, 10, 20 thousand dollars and make them sit out some games. WHOAAA!! The fines and suspensions given out to these bums is basically pocket change. Do you think 10 thousand dollars is anything to a person that makes over 40 MILLION dollars in one year?
Steroid Suspensions
Even MLB Comissioner Bud Selig’s “3 strikes and you’re out proposal” is not enough for me. In my opinion the rules should be the rules and if they can’t follow them, they should be kicked out. Some may think this is harsh, but these are not 5 year olds we are talking about, or even teenagers. These are 20-30 year old men we are talking about. Steroids, With a Side of Steroids. This is just another article of many that show the thoughts on this issue. This one just happens to be by one of the best sports writers ever.
Basically what floors me so much about this crap is the message that we are sending to our kids. The idiots that think they need to do steroids should get still get into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame though…but into the section that says “Fake good players”. Their pictures and stats should be displayed in a case that has actual real life clown suites that fit them. Please tell me your thoughts on this matter? Do you think the game will get cleaner? Or will it continue to slide? Any other thought on what could be done to get this problem under control?

I totally agree with you on the steroids issue, being a beloved baseball fan to the Minnesota Twins it only makes me happy to say "i told you so" to a few of my friends when i mentioned a few years ago that i though Alex Rodriguez was on steroids. When he was have the stellar seasons with the Texas Rangers, just out of nowhere, just like Barry Bonds did toward the end of his career i figured he must be using steroids. None of them believed me, but just look him now. It is a shame the game of baseball has to deal with this and i agree with you Dan that baseball should kick them out of the sport once they have been caught. Like you said they are grown men and know well what the consequences are for their actions. Rules are rules and should not be compensated for anyone even if they are one of the best in the game, they should not have tried to cheat, and they make more than enough money as it is. If they cannot sort this steroids mess out i am afraid the sport is going to lose some fans support.
ReplyDeleteThis issue of steroids in baseball is increasing as the days go by more and more successful baseball players have been accused of using steroids to enhance their performance. I feel that most of these players used steroids when there was no ban on steroid use and so should not be penalized on something that was not a wrong at the time when they did it.
ReplyDeleteIf any player was caught currently using steroids now after all the bans and issues surrounding steroid use then I feel they should be kicked out of the league.
This steroid issue in baseball does not seem to ever go away. I think that the penalties to the athletes caught using steroids should be raised considerably to the point to where it is too expensive to use them. Also another part of the penalty should be that those caught lose the ability to get endorsement deals. By doing this it could slow or stop the use of steroids. Another issue is that these guys are supposed to be role models to kids and they are doing a piss pour job of it.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you completely Dan, this sport definitely needs to become cleanere and have the players have some personal gratitude. They are not doing what they do on their own, they have to include a drug that is suppose to enhance their abilities to create this superstar that they want to become. Well I think this is just one way the players come up with these 40 million dollar contracts. If it wasn't for there fabulous playing, they wouldn't have the fancy cars or suits that cost more than my yearly pay. It makes me sick to think that the only thing these players want is money and fame, and that is crap to begin with. Steriods are just a weak mans way of saying, I'm trying to make up for something I don't have...
ReplyDeleteThis is all they talk about on ESPN anymore is A-Rod and steroids. He is the highest paid baseball player and there is no way that he should be taking steroids. Many little kids look up to him because he’s a super star in baseball. If you get caught with steroids you I think that the player should get suspended for a season without pay and then if it happens again they should get kicked out of baseball. As a baseball fan I would also like to find out who the other 103 people are on the Mitchell Report that have taken steroids because there might be some other big names on that list.
ReplyDeleteA-Roid made a good move commming out about steroid use to the public, its better than being a liar like Barry Bonds. To tell you the truth baseball is so ridden with steroids they should just allow it. Look on the bright side faster pitchers, more home runs, and may be some roid-enraged brawls on the field. At least then I won't fall asleep watching a baseball game in the third inning. A-Roid did tell the truth "kind of" and this is where he made a bad PR move. In the interview he answered all the questions soon after he had a press conference and started making up lies about a cousin that gave him steroids. This cousin then magically appeared a few days later. This just shows how credible A-Roid really is and to end my comment A-ROID!
