Ha… the truth finally comes out. Ladies and gentlemen as one article puts it “Its just one more punch in the gut for baseball fans”. Yes indeed, the collective thud you heard last weekend was Major League Baseball (MLB) officials as well as many baseball fans slamming their fists down to yet another steroid driving player. Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, the player almost universally brought up as the “golden child” to surpass Barry Bonds (who in my opinion has had some problems with steroids) as the all-time homerun leader is now being painted with the same brush as Bonds himself. Don’t sit there and think for one second that he will be the only one in the future to be busted. Do the words LIAR, CHEAT, FRAUD come to your mind when you hear about another player who needs banned substances to perform well? Well if they don’t they should. Just off the record, wouldn’t it be funny if teammate Derrick Jeter got busted for using steroids too. Then they would be known as the dynamic duo of A-ROID and DERRICK CHEATER!!!!!! Anyways, back to the topic. This is indeed not a new PR topic, but in a sense just 1 more page to add on top of the steroid novel that MLB has created in the last 10 years. When is this going to stop? I am sick and tired of hearing about players that get caught, and serve little to no repercussions because of it. So they fine them 5, 10, 20 thousand dollars and make them sit out some games. WHOAAA!! The fines and suspensions given out to these bums is basically pocket change. Do you think 10 thousand dollars is anything to a person that makes over 40 MILLION dollars in one year?
Steroid Suspensions
Even MLB Comissioner Bud Selig’s “3 strikes and you’re out proposal” is not enough for me. In my opinion the rules should be the rules and if they can’t follow them, they should be kicked out. Some may think this is harsh, but these are not 5 year olds we are talking about, or even teenagers. These are 20-30 year old men we are talking about. Steroids, With a Side of Steroids. This is just another article of many that show the thoughts on this issue. This one just happens to be by one of the best sports writers ever.
Basically what floors me so much about this crap is the message that we are sending to our kids. The idiots that think they need to do steroids should get still get into the Cooperstown Hall of Fame though…but into the section that says “Fake good players”. Their pictures and stats should be displayed in a case that has actual real life clown suites that fit them. Please tell me your thoughts on this matter? Do you think the game will get cleaner? Or will it continue to slide? Any other thought on what could be done to get this problem under control?
